Overview
The Moraine in Focus Photo Contest is designed to encourage the exploration and appreciation of the Oak Ridges Moraine by its residents and visitors and to raise awareness of this important geographical feature. The Photo Contest is a partnership between the Monitoring the Moraine (MTM) and the Caring for the Moraine (CMP) projects.
The 2nd year of the contest runs from Tuesday, April 1st until Wednesday, December 31st, 2008.
The photographer should identify which category they fall into to: amateur, professional and youth.

Rules & Regulations
Eligibility
All entries must be taken on the Oak Ridges Moraine. The contest is open to all amateur, professional and youth photographers who are Ontario residents except those affiliated with any of the partner organizations in the CMP and the MTM project, their funders and any member of the judges' panel including their immediate families, cohabitants, agents or contractors. ‘Amateur’ is defined as any person who is not a ‘Professional’. ‘Professional’ is defined as a person who earns any of their income from photography or has an interest or ownership in a photography business. ‘Youth’ is defined as anyone under 16 years old as of December 31st, 2008.
Photos entered must not have been previously published in print, on the Internet in any commercial or non-profit site or in any circumstances where someone else decided it should be published. Each entrant may only submit three (3) photos in their respective category. All images must be originals and must belong to the entrant. All rights in the photo must be the property of the entrant.

Each category (amateur, professional and youth) will be judged and prizes will be awarded as indicated below. Photographers should identify which category and subcategory applies to their submission(s):

Photographs may not be directly submitted under this category. The winner for this category will be determined based on the votes from those present at the showcase events. Voters are to submit their ballots for their favourite photograph at the showcase events.
The photographs, from the first three categories, will be judged based on the technical quality, the relevance to this year’s theme, ‘The Moraine Through My Eyes’ and aesthetic qualities.

Prizes/Sponsors:

How to Enter:
Each entry should be accompanied by a completed entry form which will be available soon on this website.
Entries without complete forms will not be accepted.
Entries should be submitted electronically as jpeg files. The files should be at least 1600 pixels wide for a horizontal image or 1600 pixels tall for a vertical image. The file size should be no less than 800 KB and no more than 6MB (6,000 KB). Content alteration of digital files is not acceptable; tonal or colour corrections are acceptable, including black and white conversion. Files may be cropped by contest organizers for display purposes.
Any image obtained by interfering with, disturbing, changing, altering or destroying plants, wildlife, nesting sites or breeding sites or trespassing on private property is not acceptable and will not be considered.
By entering the contest, each participant acknowledges having read these rules and regulations and agrees to be bound by them and all decisions of the contest organizers which shall be final.
Photos do not need to be taken in 2008, but they cannot have been submitted in previous years of the contest.
All Youth entrants: Each youth entrant must inform their parents/guardian of their submission of both the photograph(s) and their contact information.
Personal releases are the responsibility of the entrant and must be available in the event the photo is a winner (Personal release form [115 kb]). Winners must also sign a waiver indicating that the photo has not been previously published.

Entries and Identification
There is a limit of three (3) entries per category per entrant. If an entry is received without one clearly designated category, judges reserve the right to place the entry in an appropriate category. Each photograph can only be submitted and judged under one subcategory. Inappropriate entries will not be judged. Entries not meeting these format and identification requirements will not be eligible for judging.
Publication
Winners' names and photographs will be published in a news release as well as on the CMP and MTM websites. Entry in the contest will assume shared rights to publish, use or copy any entry in promotional material for the Oak Ridges Moraine with the Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation, CMP partners and the MTM project partners.
Entrants assume full responsibility to respect copyright laws. The original photographer retains all copyright and will be credited with each use. The photographer acknowledges that the Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation, the CMP and its partners and the MTM project partners can use the photos (with credit) in perpetuity and without royalties or other payments, now or in the future.

Deadline
All entries must be received by 5 p.m. EST on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008.
Judging
The winners will be selected by a panel of judges in King City, Ontario no later than February 28th, 2009.
Winners will be notified in March 2009. Decision of the judges is final. The winning and honorable mention photographs will be on display at www.moraineforlife.org as well as at three showcase events in May 2009 (TBD).
Winners are encouraged to attend one of the above events to collect their prize.
The judging panel will consist of an ecologist, a photographer and representatives from the Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation, the CMP and MTM project.
The winner of the People’s Choice will be determined based on the votes from the attendees at the showcase event for their favourite photograph.
Return of Entries
All entries will be retained by the Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation.
Responsibility
The Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation, the CMP partners and the MTM project partners cannot be held responsible for entries that are lost or damaged.
